Finalized Research Project
Comparison of demand-orientated methods to fix the amount of payments that farmers get in the context of nature conservation programs.
Objectives: The aim of this project is to estimate the appreciation of people towards the objects of nature conservation programs, expressed in monetary terms. These results should be introduced into a targeted payment scheme in the context of agricultural nature conservation programs.
Description: In this project, we analyse several valuation methods related to biodiversity. The focus should not be on biodiversity per se, but on protecting and restoring environments which biodiversity depends on. Therefore, we ask people to offer their preferences and their willingness to pay towards nature conservation programs in the Kulturlandschaftsprogramm von Nordrhein-Westfalen. Up to now, our preferred instruments for it are the contingent valuation method and choice experiments. We also will take interviews with experts because people usually do not have many experiences in ecological terms. Anyway, knowing their attitude towards the aims of nature conservation programs and the amount of money they are willing to pay for it might be helpful when it comes to decide about the programs. Finally, we will compare these results with that ones of the former project, when farmers were asked about their acceptance of a target-orientated payment scheme in environmental programs.
